Application of Stem Cells and Biomaterials in Tissue Regeneration

Special Issue Information

Dear Colleagues,

Stem cells possess an exceptional regenerative potential. Application of stem cells has emerged as a novel alternative therapeutic option for several diseases. In regenerative medicine, they can help improve biomaterials’ performances in tissue or organ construction. Stem cells exert their therapeutic effects through several signaling pathways including paracrine pathway effects, e.g. extracellular vesicles (EVs). These are small membrane vesicles released, containing functional cytokines, peptides, lipids and nucleic acids, such as mRNA and microRNA. The soluble bioactive molecules present in the conditioned medium directly activate the target cells, suppress pro-inflammatory responses, modulate the immune system, inhibit apoptosis and fibrosis, and stimulate tissue-intrinsic progenitor cells differentiation. To evaluate the aptitude of stem cells and their derivates in terms of tissue regeneration we invite authors to contribute with original research articles, reviews and opinion letters focused on the use of stem cells with biomaterials for potential clinical applications.

Submission Deadline: 15 November 2018

Online Submission

Manuscripts should be submitted online through ScholarOne Manuscripts for Med One (© Clarivate Analytics). Please visit Guide for Authors before submitting a manuscript. Authors are encouraged to submit a paper as soon as it is ready and don’t need to wait until the deadline. Submissions will be sent to peer-review in order of arrival. Accepted papers will be published continuously in Med One and then gathered together on the special issue webpage. We welcome Research articles, Review papers and Short Communications. For planned papers, a title and short abstract (about 100 words) can be sent to the Editorial Office for announcement on this website.
